” Therapy is simply a private discussion about what may be troubling you; it can provide new ways of looking at an issue, and new ways to better cope with it. Seeking therapy doesn’t mean something is “wrong” with you, but that you would like to learn new ways to handle difficulties. In this sense, everybody could benefit from therapy. “
Manda is an experienced psychologist who works with adolescents (13 and up) and adults. She provides interventions for a range of presentations including ASD, ADHD, eating disorders, anger management and relationship issues. She is especially skilled in supporting young people experiencing issues with anxiety, depression, body image, bullying, cultural identity, family, friendships, study and work. Manda conducts psychometric assessments such as cognitive assessments, behavioural assessments, educational assessments (including dyslexia and dyscalculia) and personality assessments. She also provides career and performance coaching as well as Christian counselling.
Manda has extensive experience across various psychological settings, including schools, acute community mental health, occupational rehabilitation and private practice. Having worked as a school psychologist and a youth clinician, she has gained a deep understanding of the unique challenges adolescents face. This has ignited her passion for working with young people. Manda also acknowledges the influence of culture on upbringing and mindset, and is highly skilled at working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
Manda believes that therapy helps us understand the core of our issues and triggers; it enables us to confront issues instead of avoiding them and provides new tools to manage difficult experiences. For some of us, this may be the first time we’re able to completely express our own feelings and thoughts without judgement or prejudice. When we continuously bottle up our emotions, we begin to feel alone and this can impact our physical and mental wellbeing. In fact, our issues are often more common than we think and we aren’t actually alone in these experiences.
Manda’s counselling style is relaxed and collaborative. She provides a confidential space for her clients to feel understood and heard. She helps her clients feel supported, while also developing new perspectives on their experiences and learning new skills. In her sessions, Manda uses cognitive behavioural therapy, behavioural activation, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness techniques. She aims to leave her clients with new insights and strategies to better cope with their difficulties.
Throughout her career as a psychologist, Manda has learnt that although we may believe that our external circumstances dictate how we feel and behave, we actually have more control over our happiness than we think. She shares one of her favourite quotes, “What you resist, persists. What you accept, transforms.” She feels privileged to support people in their most challenging and vulnerable moments, and finds it incredibly rewarding when someone’s life is positively impacted through the insights they have gained in therapy.
When she isn’t working, Manda enjoys beach walks, swimming and going out to eat.
