Avni Pawar
Professional Experience
Avni is a registered psychologist who works with children, adolescents, and adults. She provides support for a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, emotional regulation, neurodiversity and interpersonal challenges. Avni is especially skilled in supporting neurodiverse clients and is dedicated to helping children and adolescents navigate their mental health challenges while fostering emotional well-being.
With a background in the development and disability sector, Avni has a deep passion for destigmatising mental health, particularly for neurodiverse individuals and those from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds. Her professional experience includes working with clients across different age groups, providing diagnostic and cognitive assessments as well as evidence-based therapies to better understand and address individual needs.
Avni believes that a strong therapeutic relationship is at the core of effective therapy. She works to create a safe, non-judgmental, neuro-affirming space where clients feel heard, supported and empowered to explore their challenges. She also incorporates humour and lightness when appropriate, as she believes it can be an important part of the healing process. Avni understands that therapy is a journey, and is committed to guiding her clients through it at their own pace, offering personalised support that aligns with their unique goals and needs.
Throughout her practice, Avni has learned that each person’s story is unique, and no issue is too big or too small to seek help for. She believes that a compassionate, individualised approach helps clients embrace their individuality and move toward a life of greater self-acceptance and fulfilment.
Avni’s therapeutic approach is flexible and integrative, drawing from evidence-based therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, and Behaviour Therapy. She meets each client exactly where they are in their journey, tailors her approach to their specific needs, ensuring that therapy is both effective and meaningful. She is committed to helping clients reach their full potential in a way that works best for them, while improving their overall quality of life. She finds it deeply rewarding to witness her clients’ personal growth and to be a part of their journey toward positive change.
One of the most profound insights Avni has gained as a psychologist is the incredible strength and resilience of the human spirit. She has learned that even in the face of significant challenges, people have an extraordinary capacity for growth and change. For her, witnessing clients embrace their individuality and work towards their personal goals is deeply inspiring. This insight has reinforced her belief in the power of supportive, empathetic relationships and the importance of creating a safe space where clients feel empowered to be their authentic selves.
Outside of her practice, Avni enjoys spending time with her dog, reading, dancing, and catching up with friends. These activities bring her balance and joy, allowing her to stay grounded and bring her best self into her work as a psychologist.
