Farzana Rita
“Life can be challenging at times and sometimes we need help. As your therapist, I’m here to help you overcome your difficulties. We will explore reality, wisdom and inner strength. Seeking therapy may feel overwhelming at first, but it’s my responsibility to support you and provide a safe, respectful and non-judgemental environment where you can truly be yourself. I encourage you to ask any question and express whatever you want. We will proceed at a pace which is comfortable for you.”

Professional Experience
Farzana is a registered psychologist and couples therapist who treats a variety of clinical presentations. She works with children (8 and up), adolescents and adults. She has a special interest in couples counselling, mood disorders, anxiety disorders and women’s issues (e.g., relationships, work stress, family issues, work-life balance, self-esteem).
Farzana is especially skilled in treating anxiety, depression, anger management, stress, grief and loss, adjustment issues, workplace issues and relationship issues. She is also experienced in treating children and adolescents with anxiety, ADHD, ODD, behavioural issues, anger, depression, social skills deficits, self-esteem issues, bullying, adjustment issues, school issues and family issues.
Farzana has a relaxed and non-directive way of navigating problems, with an emphasis on developing insight and understanding, and addressing the root cause. She delivers psychological care in a supportive environment that promotes collaborative relationships and improves wellbeing. Her goal is to help her clients discover their inner strengths and empower them to overcome their difficulties.
Farzana’s journey of exploring human minds started long ago during her literature studies, which trained her mind to be open and flexible and taught her to see the world through the eyes of others. She brings with her a remarkable depth of experience as a psychologist. While working in the public sector, she treated people with physical and mental disabilities, the elderly, school-aged children and people with severe mental health illnesses. When she moved into private practice, she started focusing on young people and their parents, adults and couples with a diverse range of psychological needs. Farzana strongly believes that learning is a continuous process, and regularly attends courses to keep herself up-to-date and to deliver the best service to her clients.
Farzana is friendly, caring and easy-going. She has a warm and collaborative counselling style and incorporates wisdom and humour into her sessions. She creates an open, safe and non-judgmental space for her clients, where they feel heard, understood and respected. She takes a client-centred approach, tailoring her treatment according to each client’s needs, pace and presentation, showing sensitivity towards their values and culture.
Farzana has a flexible and eclectic approach towards therapy; she utilises a variety of evidence-based treatment approaches based on the client’s circumstances. While she predominantly uses CBT, ACT and mindfulness, she also incorporates elements from other therapeutic techniques. For couples therapy, she combines various modalities together with the Gottman Method. Together with her clients, she explores different approaches to their challenges, develops personalised tools and helps them apply and master those tools in real life.
Farzana finds it deeply rewarding when someone allows her to be a part of their therapeutic journey, and is dedicated to helping her clients grow and heal. She is constantly inspired at work, especially when witnessing her clients’ light-bulb moments and watching them grow and develop resilience.
She shares this quote by Brené Brown,
“Vulnerability sounds like truth and feels like courage. Truth and courage aren’t always comfortable, but they’re never weakness.”
When she isn’t working, Farzana enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, drawing and watching comedies.
