Professional Experience
Jacky has more than a decade’s worth of experience as a clinical psychologist in both the public and private sectors. He works with adolescents (aged 13+) and adults. He has extensive experience in clinical neuropsychology and provides interventions for a wide range of issues including psychotic spectrum disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, OCD, ASD, complex trauma, sleep disorders, depression, anxiety disorders, adjustment issues, health-related problems, life transitions, work-related issues, emotion regulation, anger management, self-identity and self-esteem issues.
Jacky is an established academic with a PhD, who has published eight research papers and served as a guest lecturer at The Education University of Hong Kong and an honorary clinical supervisor in Hong Kong University. He is currently the Review Editor on the Editorial Board of Health Psychology for Frontiers in Psychology.
Before moving to Australia, Jacky served as the department head at a public hospital in Hong Kong, where he developed new services including awake craniotomy, a deep brain stimulation clinic and a neuromuscular disease clinic. In addition to performing frontline clinical duties, he contributed to different taskforces and workgroups for service planning and development in the Hospital Authority. He moved to Sydney in 2022 and has since been working in private practice. His passion lies in serving the community as a clinician and he is currently focusing on seeing clients.
Jacky is an empathetic, friendly, flexible and inspiring therapist. He strives to create a safe space for his clients, so that they can turn inward and openly discuss their uncomfortable feelings and hurtful experiences. He values every aspect of the therapeutic process – from listening to his clients’ stories, to understanding their perspectives and tailoring interventions for them. He collaborates with his clients to help them understand their needs, define their goals and explore options to achieve them.
Jacky shares, “Like medical interventions that use medicines or scalpels, psychological therapy uses talking as a medium to offer people opportunities to explore their inner world, facilitating healing and personal growth.” He utilises various evidence-based psychological interventions, including acceptance and commitment therapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behaviour therapy, schema therapy and narrative therapy.
When he’s not working, Jacky enjoys photography, cooking and spending time with his family.
