Seeing a psychologist for the first time can be nerve-racking… It’s normal to feel uncomfortable when you’re not sure what you’ll need to share with a stranger. Please remember – therapy is all about you! You decide on what want to talk about, what you want to achieve and what you want to take home. As your therapist, I will respect all your decisions and feedback.
Cathy (Duya) Zhou
Cathy is a culturally competent psychologist who works with people of all ages, ethnicities, cultural backgrounds, genders and sexual orientations. She provides interventions for a wide range of issues including stress, depression, anxiety, relationship issues, ADHD, ASD and schizophrenia. She is especially experienced in providing support for children and families affected by autism. She also particularly enjoys working with children and the elderly.
Cathy is passionate about helping people reconnect with their values and inner strengths to realise their true potential. In her sessions, Cathy helps her clients confront their own thoughts, feelings, fears and desires. She empowers them to make positive changes that align with their values and goals.
By providing a safe and non-judgmental environment, Cathy develops a collaborative and trusting therapeutic relationship with each client. She attentively listens to her clients and lets them set their own pace, guiding them in making changes one step at a time.
Cathy uses evidence-based interventions like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness therapy. She helps her clients adopt a more adaptive view towards their struggles, building strength and resilience to live productive and meaningful lives.
Cathy also provides career coaching using positive psychology and solution-focused therapy. She helps her clients establish and follow through a pathway to success: from setting SMART career goals and overcoming weaknesses, to leveraging their strengths and developing resourcefulness.
For Cathy, the therapeutic journey is filled with mutual learning experiences. She learns a lot from each of her clients and feels privileged to be able to experience the most important stories in their lives.
When she isn’t working, Cathy enjoys music, good food and meditation.
