Professional Experience

Hua works with adolescents (13 and up), young adults, and adults across various life stages. Her clinical expertise includes psychological assessment, clinical interviewing, case formulation, crisis intervention, and therapy. She provides interventions for a range of mental health concerns, including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, emotional dysregulation, personality disorders, early episode psychosis, and life transitions.

Coming from a culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) background herself, Hua is passionate about supporting people from minority groups — including CALD communities, women, the elderly, and the LGBTQ+ community. Her thesis on mental health within the Chinese community, along with her experience in community mental health services, has given her valuable insight into the challenges faced by individuals and families from diverse backgrounds. She is committed to providing culturally sensitive care that helps clients feel understood and supported in their mental health journey.

Prior to joining New Vision Psychology, Hua worked with NSW Health across Emergency Department and community settings, where she supported individuals with diverse and complex presentations, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. These experiences strengthened her clinical skills and deepened her appreciation for the importance of holistic, team-based care.

Hua’s therapeutic style is collaborative and empowering. Rather than focusing solely on difficulties, she helps clients recognise and build on their strengths while working together toward meaningful goals. Therapy with Hua is grounded in empathy, understanding, and authenticity. She values clients’ autonomy and creates a safe, supportive environment where they feel heard and respected. Her goal is to empower individuals through compassionate, evidence-based therapy that supports self-discovery, resilience, and personal growth.

In her practice, Hua draws from a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Schema Therapy. She tailors each intervention to best suit the individual needs and goals of her clients. A technique she often uses is Chain Analysis, which she describes as putting together the pieces of a puzzle — guiding clients to explore their thoughts, feelings, physical sensations, and actions that occur in challenging moments. This process helps them gain clarity, develop adaptive strategies, and create meaningful changes.

Hua is continually inspired by the strength, resilience and capacity for recovery that her clients possess — often long before they recognise it themselves. She once received a card from a client who wrote, “It was very hard to trust anyone, and you have been a big part of my journey to recovery.” Moments like these remind Hua of the profound privilege of her work; being trusted to walk alongside clients in their healing journey is what she finds most meaningful and rewarding as a psychologist.
