Professional Experience

Kelvin is a child psychologist who provides interventions for children ages 3 and up. He also works with adolescents and adults. Kelvin treats various presentations including childhood developmental disorders, behavioural difficulties, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, addictions and trauma. He also performs cognitive assessments as well as diagnoses and treats ADHD, ASD and dyslexia.

As an ardent gamer, Kelvin especially enjoys working with children. His strength lies in his ability to effectively connect with children through fun and creative approaches. Before entering private practice, he worked with vulnerable children, complex PTSD patients and individuals with disabilities. Through his multifaceted experience, Kelvin has acquired valuable skills to treat a broad range of presentations.

At a very young age, Kelvin was exposed to the teachings of Buddha by his maternal grandparents. These philosophies have been a part of him ever since. Interestingly, research started emerging decades later, demonstrating how Buddhist teachings inform, complement and enhance the practice of contemporary psychotherapy. Despite their vastly different historical backgrounds, these two therapeutic paths – Buddhism and Psychotherapy – share a concern with the suffering of a fractured mind, and a belief that healing is possible through care, understanding and effort. Kelvin uses his experience in both Buddhism and psychology to inform his therapeutic practice.

He shares this quote from Carl Rogers, “The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination.”

Kelvin sees therapy as a gateway to wellness – the key to unlocking this gateway lies within yourself; he is simply there to guide you. Kelvin loves working with people from all walks of life. He feels privileged to be trusted with their stories and to be invited to walk a part of their journey with them. In his sessions, Kelvin uses cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), narrative therapy, art therapy and motivational interviewing. He enjoys blending multiple therapeutic modalities as he does not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. He seeks to understand each client’s backstory and preferences before collaboratively deciding on a tailored therapeutic approach. He is passionate about helping people achieve their potential and finds it deeply rewarding to see his clients feeling more empowered, stronger, and happier as they leave each session.

When he is not working, Kelvin enjoys going to the movies, gaming, playing sports and travelling. He is also a big Harry Potter fan and once bought hundreds of chocolate frogs to get every single one of the collectible cards!
