Professional Experience

Shirley is a trauma-informed clinical psychologist who works with adolescents and adults. She provides interventions for a wide range of issues including generalised anxiety, panic disorder, OCD, specific phobias, trauma (complex, developmental, and relational), neurodiversity (autism and ADHD), third culture kids and cultural issues, suicide prevention, psychosis, disordered eating, body image issues, grief and loss, stress, insomnia, life transitions and adjustments, and relationship issues.

Shirley brings a wealth of experience from her work across diverse settings, including supporting neurodiverse children and NDIS participants, contributing at university and research clinics, Lifeline, private practices, and community mental health teams. Her mission is to ensure that people do not feel alone in navigating some of the trickier turns of life; to let them know that support is available and that change is possible.

Shirley has personally witnessed how chronic health conditions, trauma and major life changes have impacted the mental health and wellbeing of those around her. This ignites her drive to support others in navigating these challenges. She empowers her clients to make positive changes to live a life that is truly meaningful for them.

Shirley works collaboratively, flexibly, and creatively to find solutions that work for each individual. Warm and approachable, she provides a safe and inclusive space for all clients and is committed to understanding their unique experiences. She is passionate about disrupting trauma cycles and improving wellbeing so that individuals can move beyond surviving towards thriving.

In her sessions, Shirley incorporates evidence-based interventions carefully tailored to each client’s needs, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Attachment Based Family Therapy (ABFT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy for Eating Disorders (CBT-E).

Throughout her career as a psychologist, she has had the privilege of bearing witness to many people’s stories and is in awe of the human capacity for resilience. She strongly believes that we are wired for connection and that safe and supportive relationships are crucial to healing. She finds it deeply meaningful and rewarding to witness the snowball effect of small changes and to see her clients step into their power.

She shares this quote by Viktor Frankl, “Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms—to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”

When she isn’t working, Shirley enjoys going to the gym, hanging out with friends and family, going on long walks, and sampling matcha and coffee from different cafes.
