Dr Chang Chen
“It’s okay to have setbacks. Be kind to yourself and reach out for support—you don’t have to do it alone. Talking to a psychologist can offer clarity, structure, and hope when things feel uncertain. Progress takes time, but trusting the process and staying open with your psychologist can make a huge difference. Therapy is a partnership—your input and effort matter just as much as the techniques we use.”

Professional Experience
Chang is a dedicated psychologist with a PhD, experienced in psychological assessments and evidence-based interventions. She provides assessments and treatments for ADHD and ASD, as well as interventions for a range of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, domestic violence, adjustment disorders, emotional regulation, eating disorders, pregnancy-related issues, sleep disorders, and work-related stress. She has a special interest in helping people overcome procrastination and exploring how neurodiversity influences cognitive functioning and daily life.
Chang particularly enjoys working with university students, women (including those navigating motherhood), and older adults. She feels especially attuned to clients from culturally diverse backgrounds, and values building strong therapeutic relationships based on mutual understanding and respect.
Chang moved to Australia from China in 2018. She completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s training in China, and her PhD in Australia. This bicultural experience allows her to support clients who may be navigating cross-cultural challenges, especially those from similar backgrounds. She understands both the deep-rooted perspectives and evolving expectations that clients may bring into therapy, and incorporates this understanding into her therapeutic work.
Chang views therapy as a collaborative journey, where her role is to guide and support clients toward their own growth and self-understanding. Her mission is to create a safe and inclusive space where clients feel heard, supported, and empowered. She aims to help her clients build resilience, enhance self-awareness, and develop practical tools for managing life’s challenges. She empowers them by helping them identify practical strategies and insights that lead to meaningful change.
Chang is warm and empathetic and her therapeutic style is calm, rational, and solution-focused. She primarily uses CBT, often integrating elements of ACT, motivational interviewing and solution-focused brief therapy. She tailors her approach based on each client’s unique needs, always keeping their goals at the centre of the process.
For Chang, the most rewarding part of her work is witnessing her clients grow in confidence and self-efficacy—especially when they begin to manage challenges independently and rely less on therapy over time. She’s learnt that real change is possible when clients feel truly seen and supported. Seeing them thrive keeps her inspired and motivated.
She shares one of her favourite quotes: “You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.”
When she isn’t working, Chang enjoys staying updated with the latest research in health and psychology (e.g., nature and science), gardening, and crafting.
