Talking to a stranger about your struggles and difficulties may be intimidating and anxiety-inducing. It may also be tiring to talk about the same story over and over again. But changes won’t occur without stepping outside of your comfort zone. You don’t have to be alone when you choose to thrive and grow… reaching out for help could be the crucial first step to making positive differences in your life.
Sherry Zeng
Professional Experience
Sherry is a warm psychologist who works with adolescents and adults. She is especially skilled in providing interventions for anxiety, stress management, gender and sexuality, trauma and adjustment issues. She treats a wide range of presentations including ADHD, anger management, depression, addictions, personality disorders and work-related issues.
Sherry has a specific interest in working with young people from culturally diverse and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds. She is also passionate about working with international students and has an exceptional advantage in this area. Given her own experience as a former international student from China, she is equipped with the personal insights and professional skills to understand their unique challenges and provide effective guidance.
Sherry’s therapeutic approach is warm, genuine and non-judgemental. She provides a safe space for her clients to feel comfortable talking about their struggles and listens intently to them. For her, therapy is a collaborative process that requires both the therapist and client to be open and honest to each other. She believes that the therapeutic alliance plays a vital role in facilitating meaningful and productive sessions. In her practice, Sherry ensures that she is always on the same page as her clients, working towards the same goal. She works to deeply understand each client and cultivate strong therapeutic relationships, while helping them make positive changes in their lives.
Sherry provides personalised evidence-based treatment to help her clients achieve their therapeutic goals. She takes an integrative approach and incorporates elements and strategies from various therapeutic modalities. Depending on the client’s presentation, she often starts with cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), along with motivational interviewing. She also utilises techniques from dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) and schema therapy for more long-lasting concerns.
She shares her favourite quote by Brené Brown, “Vulnerability is the birthplace of innovation, creativity and change.”
When she isn’t working, Sherry enjoys spending time with family and friends, hanging out with her cat, listening to music and visiting art galleries.
