Liela Vergara
It’s helpful to attend each therapy session with a goal in mind as it helps to work within a structure. In our sessions, we’ll focus on what you want to achieve while still being flexible to allow for the thorough exploration of different ideas and concepts.

Professional Experience
Liela works with individuals and couples, providing interventions for a range of psychological barriers. She is especially skilled in treating phobias, obsessive compulsive symptoms, depression, anxiety and self-confidence. She is one of our Spanish speaking psychologists here at New Vision Psychology. Liela is highly experienced in working with people in the disability sector and in providing vocational interventions to help clients achieve employment-related goals. She is passionate about helping people gain mastery over areas of their lives that used to hold them back. Her clients range from adolescents to older adults, and sessions can be offered in both English and Spanish.
Liela provides a safe space for her clients to feel comfortable expressing themselves authentically, forming a strong therapeutic alliance that enables change and personal development. Using a non-judgemental collaborative approach, she helps her clients understand their symptoms and why they’re experiencing them. She then helps them identify their strengths, explore areas of development, and provides them with the right set of psychological tools which they can integrate into their daily lives. By doing this, she empowers her clients to overcome their challenges and achieve their therapeutic goals.
Liela stresses the importance of evaluating change and progress throughout the course of therapy. Therapy is not just about focusing on one’s struggles but also identifying and acknowledging the progress that each person achieves. Liela believes this helps to instil a sense of mastery, in many cases improving self-confidence and self-efficacy. Ultimately, therapy is about instilling hope about your chances of improvement.
Liela utilises a range of evidence-based interventions tailored to each client based on their therapeutic needs, preferences and progress. She conscientiously incorporates latest knowledge into her treatment approaches. For Liela, the importance of communication cannot be understated. Therapy is a collaborative process from the assessment phase to treatment planning, and delivery of intervention. Liela encourages her clients to provide feedback, complete in-between session activities, and engage in self-reflection to help increase their self-awareness.
When she isn’t working, Liela enjoys hiking, reading, watching movies and exploring different cuisines.
